Memories:
This professor brought 4 plastic bags of
sentimental clothing to me and asked if I could create a
quilt to commemorate his memories. It truly was a challenge. The
quilt spans 40 years of his life. A portion of every piece of
clothing is included in the quilt, from his time in the
service, to his fanciful knitted hats that he was so noted for. The
tabs at the top of the quilt are old neckties and are used as a
hanging device over a rod. |
My Life's Journey:
Designed for an ex-priest
who lived in
Africa for a few years. The African drummer is symbolic
of that period of time. The half moon and the
sun is shows "balance". The cross is white beads that were
hand sewn - symbolic of his time as a priest.
He is a gardener who enjoys working with tools. In
the bottom right corner is a garden, and in the lower
center is a man with his tools. In the bottom left corner are books
depicting his love of reading. The
open book is of the Bible and his marriage vows. The group of people symbolizes his time as an
organizer. The art quilt is arched to show
the Journey from past to present... |
The Child's
Story:
The images in the quilt are articles of clothing and
of art designs from pre-school, through high school for her only
child. She had the piece designed to give to her son as a graduating
gift from college. Once the piece was completed, her son got a
photograph of the piece and his mom has the original that she says
he will get much later in life. |
